MG Majestor to replace Gloster as MG’s flagship ICE SUV!
MG Motor is planning to reshuffle its big SUV lineup in India. The upcoming Majestor is expected to replace the Gloster as the brand’s top internal-combustion three-row SUV. Earlier, both models were expected to be sold together, but reports now suggest the Gloster will be phased out once the Majestor arrives.
The Majestor is likely to launch around April with an expected price of over Rs. 40 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with premium full-size SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.
Gloster’s journey in India
When MG launched the Gloster in 2020, it entered a segment dominated by tough ladder-frame SUVs and directly rivalled the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. It received strong initial demand, with many early bookings and quick deliveries.
Over time, however, sales slowed down. Monthly numbers dropped to a few hundred units and declined further in recent years. Special editions, including darker-themed versions, did little to boost demand.
What the Majestor will offer
The Majestor will be based on the same platform as the Gloster, not an entirely new model. However, MG is expected to give it:
• Fresh exterior styling
• More features and equipment
• Better off-road capability
Expected off-road hardware includes a low-range transfer case, crawl control and differential locks, showing MG wants it to be both premium and more capable on rough terrain.
Market strategy and production
The premium three-row SUV segment in India sells around 35,000–40,000 units a year, with the Toyota Fortuner still leading. Even though volumes are limited, this segment is important because of higher prices, better profits and strong brand image.

MG is reportedly preparing to produce over 1,000 Majestor units per month. While official sales targets haven’t been announced, the company believes Indian buyers are increasingly willing to spend more on premium vehicles.
