Mercedes Unleashes a Convertible and a Powerhouse Coupe SUV
Mercedes-Benz India has introduced two new models for the Indian market: the AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe, commanding a hefty price tag of Rs. 1.11 crore (ex-showroom), and the CLE 300 Cabriolet, standing firm at a price of Rs. 1.1 crores (ex-showroom). These vehicles represent the newest acquisitions in Mercedes-Benz’s eclectic lineup, appealing to aficionados of powerful SUVs and chic convertibles.
The globally unveiled AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupe in September 2023 represents an exhilarating departure from its predecessor. This latest iteration boldly discards the previous 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 engine in favor of a smaller and more dynamic 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, supercharged with 48V mild-hybrid technology.
The GLC 43 flaunts a staggering 421 HP and 500 Nm of torque, defying expectations despite its downsized engine. This results in the coupe launching from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 4.7 seconds, all while being electronically limited to a thrilling top speed of 250 km/hr. The machine boasts a formidable 9-speed automatic transmission, propelling power to all four wheels while flaunting rear-wheel steering, high-performance brakes, speed-sensing steering, and adjustable suspension dampers as standard features.
The GLC 43 sets itself apart from the standard GLC with its bold AMG-specific elements. These encompass a striking grille, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, AMG side skirting, and a commanding rear diffuser with quad exhausts. The coupe’s sleek, sloping roofline and impressive alloy wheels, reaching up to 21 inches, further enhance its commanding and dynamic presence.
The GLC 43 has a luxurious and sporty design with unique AMG interior features, like the steering wheel and Nappa leather seats. The digital instrument cluster and infotainment system are enhanced with AMG graphics, and the vehicle includes a 710W, 15-speaker Burmester sound system, a 12.3-inch driver display, and an 11.9-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Mercedes-Benz has also introduced the CLE 300 Cabriolet in India. The CLE Cabriolet is built on Mercedes’ Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, which it shares with the current C-Class and the upcoming new-generation E-Class. This gives the CLE a longer and more refined profile compared to the older C- and E-Class coupes.
The CLE Cabriolet in India flaunts a design inspired by the outgoing E-Class coupe and cabriolet, boasting a commanding grille, an elongated bonnet, and an automatic multi-layered fabric hood that tucks away effortlessly into the boot. This model comes in the AMG Line trim, accentuating its presence with strikingly sporty design elements, notably in the bumpers.
The CLE 300 Cabriolet resembles the C-Class in its interior and features. It has a 2+2 seating layout with new front seats, and it is the first Mercedes cabriolet to have separate head airbags for rear passengers. Its soft top opens or closes within 20 seconds at speeds of up to 60 km/hr.
Powering the CLE 300 Cabriolet is a feisty 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine coupled with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This powerhouse churns out an impressive 258 HP and a whopping 400 Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/hr in just 6.6 seconds, reaching an exhilarating top speed of 250 km/hr.
The CLE Cabriolet dares to challenge rivals such as the BMW Z4, with its audacious price tag of Rs. 90.90 lakhs (ex-showroom), making it a tempting and rebellious choice in comparison to the illustrious Porsche 718 Boxster.
